Arsenal's goalkeeper Praises Team's Strength as Vital to Multiple Trophy Pursuit
David Raya has emphasized that intense competition for first-team spots is propelling Arsenal's outstanding form, with the keeper asserting that the team's roster under Mikel Arteta is so extraordinary that they can contend for various titles this season.
Stunning Wins Highlight Arsenal's Prowess
The North London club's recent comprehensive win over Atlético Madrid marked their six consecutive wins and 10th success in a dozen games. Having let in just three goals—the fewest at this point in the club's history—Arsenal have secured a narrow advantage at the Premier League summit and a flawless start in the Champions League after three outings.
Rotation and Depth Crucial to Achievements
Raya has featured in nearly every game, aside from one Carabao Cup encounter, but the manager has consistently rotated the lineup following significant summer investment on recruits. When asked about competing for several pieces of silverware, Raya said, "Yes, I believe so. Our squad strength is amazing. There are numerous options who can excel in two, three, or four positions."
Like in the Atlético match, Mikel Merino was introduced as a forward and can also play as a central midfielder or No 10. That versatility is available to the manager, and he's using it to benefit the team. It's looking very, very good, and that depth is very important for us.
Rivalry Elevates Standards
The Spain international added, "This situation provides an extra level in training and matches because if you're not at it, you can lose instantly. That fosters healthy competitiveness in sessions and during matches, which is vitally significant, and everyone is on board."
Strong Defense a Collective Effort
Arsenal have conceded only one goal from open play so far, and the keeper has had to deal with a mere one attempt in their last three wins against three opponents.
"It's a collective effort from the forwards to the goalie," Raya explained. "Everyone is focused, determined not to give anything away, and we aim to intercept the ball prior to it crossing the halfway line. If we intercept, it allows a quick counter. It's crucial for the entire team to understand this mentality, and we're not allowing numerous opportunities, which is ideal."
