Defiant Nancy does not fear dismissal but the Parkhead faithful show fury after loss.
The under-pressure manager insisted he did not fear the sack, asserting, “I believe we are extremely close to changing our fortunes,” despite sliding worryingly close to the exit with a convincing defeat by their arch-rivals.
Another Collapse Sees Old Firm Loss
The home side were in front Rangers at half-time but a collapse after the break enabled Rangers to pull level on points with the defending league title holders. The former MLS manager, who was brought in in December, has now presided over six losses in his last eight fixtures.
“There is unity with the board,” said the manager.
Asked directly about whether he was concerned, he responded: “That’s not my focus. I concentrate on working out methods to get the team to excel on details.
Fan Fury Outside Parkhead
The fans displayed their anger – towards the dugout and directors – by protesting at Parkhead. The hierarchy are thought to be considering to bring back the former boss, who steered the club during a caretaker period previously, if Nancy departs.
“It’s the results [that leads to pressure]. And that’s the situation for the moment. But in stating this is the reality, I am not saying that I am giving up. Not at all. The message is we are on the cusp, imminently close to reverse our form.”
Nancy’s Persistent Belief
The coach continues to cling to the fact the side can perform strongly for 45 minutes at a time. For instance, but for wastefulness in front of goal they would have been more than 1-0 up. “I saw enough except the fact that we haven’t scored a second goal,” he said. “I acknowledge that we lost, but I have also to be balanced.
“The level we had at times was exceptionally high. That happened. I wouldn't say that if it was not the case. But that’s why, in terms of results, I mentioned we've seen this before. For that reason I said that a change is coming to a shift in fortunes. Right now: details, details, details.”
“I saw plenty of positives that we did, like today again. But now comes down to sustaining it. My narrative would change the same. Therefore I firmly believe we’re going to be able to turn things around.”
The Rangers Boss Stance
Danny Röhl refused to contemplate a championship push even after what seemed like a huge result. “Step by step, and we can develop a challenge,” he said. “The belief in the team is immense.”
