A funding package that would terminate the longest government shutdown in American history is reaching the House of Representatives for a crucial vote on midweek.

On the 43rd day of the budget deadlock, lawmakers are coming back to Washington to determine if they will approve a legislative agreement that would fund public services for the next eight weeks.

GOP leaders voiced optimism the budget proposal would clear the House of Representatives, regardless of their tight margin. But Democratic leadership promised to vote against it.

"We're opening up our country," he announced on Tuesday at a military commemoration in the Virginia suburb. "Shouldn't have been closed."

Consequences of the Funding Lapse

Majority party representatives brushed aside Democratic amendments aiming to continue expiring health insurance subsidies - their main demand during the impasse.

The chamber is expected to reconvene at 4 PM Eastern (21:00 GMT) to hold one hour of debate on the proposal before a vote.

Democratic Opposition

Opposition chief the minority leader of the Empire State pledged to oppose the proposal.

"We're strongly opposed as House Democrats to this irresponsible GOP attempt to persist in increasing the high cost of living on working families," he informed the media outlet.

Jeffries has voiced disappointment with Senate Democrats who sided with Republicans on Monday night to endorse the budget proposal.

Major Points

A key condition of minority members during the closure has been that the majority include in the spending bill a provision to prolong tax credits that make healthcare less expensive for 24 million Americans.

But Republicans remained cohesive and would not move, accepting solely allow a vote in December on the healthcare subsidies, something they had offered weeks ago.

And there is no guarantee that legislation will be approved by the upper chamber, while the presiding officer has yet to commit a decision regarding the fiscal incentives in that chamber.
