Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and continuing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity in the area of the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any impact is unclear and the American officials has remained silent.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on locations associated with the the regime, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a number of missiles," the statement continued.

It said wreckage landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
