19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev claimed his first championship for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging year, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in specific - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-term trainer Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

It is his maiden title since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface since that period of the previous year.

The win also signifies Medvedev has secured twenty-one titles at 21 distinct competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my children simultaneously, so to get a trophy is really nice," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, featuring in that event previously this season.

His retrieving approach and regular outbursts on the tennis court had caused observers to doubt if his ability to play at the top level was concluded.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform assertively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion recovered from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair swapped breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour title, took control to create a decider.

Moutet rescued four early opportunities in a competitive final set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned victory with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
