The Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Meeting With the Dodgers
George Springer was instrumental for the Astros claiming the World Series in the 2017 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays reached their first Fall Classic following 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive game seven of the American League Championship Series.
Down three runs to one, the star outfielder delivered a three-run blast in the seventh, propelling the sole Canadian team in MLB to a four games to three victory in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the forthcoming championship.
"It's incredible for everyone here, the city, the nation," said Springer, a key player of the Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "This is such an unbelievable moment."
Springer has now connected for 23 total post-season home runs, making him third on the list after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not anyone else in the world that I'd choose in that spot other than Springer with his October magic," remarked manager John Schneider.
Seattle, who had led the early in the series, are still the only MLB franchise never to appear in a championship series.
Wilson stated "there's no question that it's going to sting" in the wake of his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their performance in the campaign.
"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this game," he remarked.
Toronto claimed the World Series on both previous visits in the early 90s, and are set to host the Los Angeles in game one on this Friday.
