The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Horror Merging Silent Hill and Among Us Mechanics

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation revealed several intriguing future games, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience seems to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive experience where a young woman containing multiple human souls within her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Inside her reside four separate personas, all possessing their own anxieties and drives. These entities can seize control spontaneously, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.

Judging by revealed footage, much of the action unfolds within a creepy hospital, though other scenes depict the protagonist exploring a abandoned church.

An Environment of Personal Horror

"What are you fearful of? What makes you uneasy?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. Authority figures. Elements that appear minor to others can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game explores that idea — anxieties that are unique to every individual."

The core gameplay loop revolves around managing the persona that surfaces at a particular moment. However, these souls will switch against your will as you play. While exploring, every persona's fears become amplified and assault the girl in succession. As the persona changes, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Eerie Visuals and a Deadly Choice

At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is filled with nurses who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad grins. Patients in the lobby have enormous flowers where their necks are. Flowers are an ever-present element, juxtaposing organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular twist. Players must determine which of the four entities inhabiting the heroine is the "true" one. "All four souls asserts that the physical form belongs to them," notes a creator. "During the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player believes a soul is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. But, since each soul can deceive or obfuscate the truth, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," a voice states. "The last one remaining might be a fake. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced release date, but it is can be wishlist on digital storefronts.
