The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Song

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure from Critical Role, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at several heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures such as the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, Fjord.

All in all, the intro appears stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the music selection.

This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song composed by artist the talented musician. It's a track from the official score of the same name, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a great nostalgic option, and I suspect that devotees of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the excitement and energy that was part of the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when cast member the performer added lyrics to the melody for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and fun. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's a grand piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, the creators has already said that the animated show will have a few surprises and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its intro seems to be among these.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from Nov. 19. If you can't wait until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of the second series, the original episodes are available on the audio platform and YouTube.
