The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.

While perhaps not at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.

“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people yelling “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A Future Secured

The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It captures the character of Miami: happy, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
