The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
