The United Kingdom Prepared to Use Immobilized Russia's Assets to Fund Ukraine's Military Campaign
The United Kingdom is prepared to move forward with using the full worth of immobilized Russian funds to aid Ukraine's military campaign, PM Sir Keir Starmer has declared.
In a collective announcement, the heads of state of the UK, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany emphasized that this coordinated action would heighten pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and persuade the Russian Federation to engage in negotiations.
They added that the initiative would be implemented in close cooperation with the US.
British penalties have blocked over £25bn of Russian funds since Russia began its widespread offensive against Ukraine in 2022. Yet, until now, resources provided to the Ukrainian government using Russia's assets had solely been drawn from gains and dividends accrued on them.
Sir Keir told Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, the French Republic, and Germany were aligned in their aim to advance efforts toward utilizing the full value of the frozen Russian sovereign assets to end the war.
He noted that more restrictions soon would apply more pressure on Russia.
This declaration follows European representatives gathered in Copenhagen previously to consider using seized Russian funds for a 140-billion-euro credit to Ukraine.
